Every year in Italy, around 100 people are caught in avalanches while in the high mountains. In 2014, filmmaker Dario Tubaldo from Lombardy was swept away by an avalanche while shooting a documentary on snowboard mountaineering, miraculously escaping unharmed. Ten years later, Return to the Breithorn tells the story of Dario’s journey back to the site of the accident to reflect on the mountain, its risks, and its beauty, accompanied by old and new friends: Stefano Fontanelle, a pioneer of snowboard mountaineering in the Aosta Valley; Ettore Personnettaz, a freerider from the region known for extreme splitboard descents; and Shanty Cipolli, a young mountain guide from the Aosta Valley.
