Pura Vida Bodysurfing

Pura Vida Bodysurfing

Pura Vida Bodysurfing is an immersive short film that celebrates surfing in its purest form—riding waves with nothing but your body. Produced by Spencer Dunlap, the film spotlights Costa Rica’s world-class waves and the passionate community that lives by them. Following Costa Rican bodysurfer Pablo Solano, Dunlap, and members of the Bodysurf Collective, the journey spans both coasts, exploring iconic breaks such as Roca Bruja (Witch’s Rock), Playa Grande, Playa Hermosa, Dominical, Pavones, and Salsa Brava. With a mix of in-water shots, drone footage, and candid moments on the road, the film captures bodysurfing as both a sport and a cultural expression rooted in Costa Rica’s Pura Vida ethos. Set to original music by Sami Freeman and tracks from local artists including Abedúl, Cocofunka, Magpie Jay, and Patterns, it offers a warm, rhythmic portrait of life by the ocean. Audience Choice Award - Costa Rica Surf Film Festival 2025.
