Whitbread 73
On September 8, 1973, the inaugural Whitbread race, the first-ever round-the-world yacht race set sail from Portsmouth, England. This leap into the unknown involved 17 crews. André Viant took on this daring challenge aboard the Grand Louis, an 18-meter schooner, accompanied by a group of 15 youngsters aged 20 to 25, including his children, family members and acquaintances from the nautical world. Fifty years later, they reminisce. Through a blend of never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with the participants of that era, this documentary recounts the incredible adventure that forever altered the course of their lives.
